Debbie Lee

Nestled on the hills above the Jurassic Swanage, Dorset, Debbie’s studio is alive with the whiff of recently performed magical tricks and sinister illusion. Her paintings, drawings, prints and animations all represent the importance of narrative, of stories told and handed down by generations of women to their children. The compassion and warmth displayed by the child-like figures is matched by the menace of their surroundings or the position in which they find themselves. They are cautionary tales, presented as a book of pantomime.

Wonder is found in the desire to protect, to educate and nurture. Debbie’s influences are moral and hold power even when investigating the dark.
